24–36 Months

“Welcome to Kits – where little rabbits hop, explore and discover the joy of learning through play on our beautiful farm.”

Welcome to Kits

Designed for active, curious two-year-olds developing independence, the Kits room supports rapidly growing personalities, language and early learning. Our experienced team provides a vocabulary-rich, play-based environment with creative, hands-on and outdoor experiences.

Bright and spacious, it offers secure outdoor play, farm walks and plenty of room for bikes and trikes on the grassy field. At around 30 months we complete a Two-Year-Old Check alongside regular observations, reviewing progress with parents and, if needed, health professionals. From this age, our SENCo works with staff and families to ensure every child gets the support they need for school readiness.

Learning Through Play

In Kits, learning happens through a mix of child led and adult led activities. Children paint, build, create and experiment with a wide range of materials and textures, from squelching paint between fingers to digging in mud and splashing in water.

We introduce early maths and literacy concepts through playful activities like counting eggs, sorting vegetables and recognising letters in their names. Music, movement and story time build on their vocabulary while outdoor exploration develops physical confidence and a love of nature.

Farm Adventures

Kits children eagerly await outdoor time from the moment they try to pull on their wellies and wetsuits. They help feed the chickens and collect eggs, visit the pigs, watch the ponies, and learn to be gentle with the rabbits. Our vegetable garden becomes a hands-on classroom where children dig, plant, water, and harvest; washing fruit or carrots and enjoying them for snack, experiencing the full cycle of growing food.

Children build dens, hunt for minibeasts, and explore the changing seasons, observing and discussing nature as it evolves around them.

Building Independence

The Kits room is where independence really begins to flourish. Children learn to do things for themselves, from putting on coats and wellies to washing hands and tidying up after play. We support toilet training when your child is ready, working closely with you to ensure consistency between home and nursery.

Making choices is an important part of building independence, with children choosing which activities to engage with and how to spend their time.

Preparing For Preschool

While Kits children are still young, we begin laying the groundwork for their transition to preschool. We focus on developing the social and emotional skills they’ll need, from sharing and turn-taking to managing emotions and building friendships. Group times introduce children to sitting together, listening to instructions and listening to their peers, as well as  participating in sharing activities.

We also begin introducing more structured learning opportunities through playful activities that spark curiosity and build foundational skills.

A Typical Day

Each day follows a flexible routine that balances structure with freedom. Every morning and afternoon includes outdoor exploration, themed craft or messy play, snack and meal times, and group activities such as singing, rhyming, or story time.

Children of this age usually have one sleep after lunch, which is freshly cooked each day by our chef. Mealtimes are calm and unhurried, with a focus on handwashing and independence. Afternoon sessions include a snack and a light, chef-prepared tea at 4pm, followed by more play, often outside again.

“My child has settled so well — the team are amazing and always make each day fun, calm and full of learning.”
